Cycling routes in Mallorca from Campanet

Mallorca is one of Europe's great cycling destinations, especially in spring and autumn. Villa Son Bisho is in Campanet, between the Serra de Tramuntana and the flat Pla: the first climb starts 8 km from the door, and quiet inland roads run right past the village. Here are seven routes, from the flattest to the hardest, with the figures for each climb.

Cycling distances from Villa Son Bisho measured with Google Maps; climb data from leading cycling guides. Updated October 2026.

  1. The villages of the Pla

    • Starts at the door
    • Loop
    • 62 km
    • Flat
    • Easy

A day's riding without big climbs through the island's interior: Campanet, sa Pobla, Muro, Santa Margalida, Petra, Sineu and Llubí, on quiet back roads between almond trees, fields and windmills. Every village has a square with a café for a stop, and Petra is the birthplace of Saint Junípero Serra.

Tip: Good for the first day or a recovery ride. On Wednesdays, stop at Sineu market.

  2. Alcúdia bay and s'Albufera

    • Starts at the door
    • Loop
    • 54 km
    • Flat
    • Easy

A flat ride to the sea: Alcúdia and its walled old town, the bay and Playa de Muro, and back via Muro. Next to the beach is the s'Albufera Natural Park, free to enter, with several trails you can ride to watch birds; ask for the permit at the Sa Roca visitor centre.

Tip: Ride slowly inside the park: it is a protected bird area.

  3. Coll de sa Batalla (from Caimari)

    • 8 km by bike from the house
    • Climb
    • 8 km
    • 5 % average
    • 430 m ascent
    • Medium

The house climb. From Caimari, 8 km from the villa, the road winds up through pine and holm oak to the Coll de sa Batalla, on the doorstep of Lluc. A steady gradient of around 5 % and good tarmac. At the top is the petrol station café that every cyclist stops at, and the junction for Lluc, Pollença and Sa Calobra.

Tip: In summer, start early to avoid the traffic.

  4. Coll de Femenia and Lluc (loop)

    • Starts at the door
    • Loop
    • 55 km
    • 7.5 km climb at 6 %
    • Medium

The classic loop from the house: across the flat to Pollença, up the Coll de Femenia through a valley of dry-stone walls and terraces, on perfect tarmac at a steady gradient, past Lluc and down the Coll de sa Batalla to Caimari and Campanet.

Tip: Refill your bottles at Lluc: the sanctuary has a café and a fountain.

  5. Cap de Formentor

    • 42 km by bike from the house
    • Out and back from Port de Pollença
    • 36 km
    • About 960 m ascent
    • Medium to hard

One of the most beautiful roads in the Mediterranean: from Port de Pollença to the Formentor lighthouse along the peninsula, with cliffs and sea on both sides. It is not a single climb but a series of them, the first up to the Mirador de sa Creueta, and there is a lit tunnel of about 300 metres. In high season the last section is closed to private cars during the day (in 2026, from 15 May to 18 October, 10:00 to 22:00), but not to bikes.

Tip: Bring a light for the tunnel and water: the lighthouse café is not always open. From the house it is about 85 km there and back.

  6. Puig Major (from Sóller)

    • 1 h 05 by car from the house
    • Climb
    • 14.6 km
    • 5.9 % average
    • Max 8.8 %
    • Hard

The longest climb on the island: from Sóller to the Monnàber tunnel, at about 860 metres, below the Puig Major, Mallorca's highest mountain. It is the highest point any road reaches on the island, as the summit itself is a military area. Views over the Sóller valley on the way up and, on the other side, the Cúber and Gorg Blau reservoirs.

Tip: Bring lights: there are tunnels on this road.

  7. Sa Calobra (Coll dels Reis)

    • 37 km by bike from the house
    • Climb
    • 9.4 km
    • 7 % average
    • Max 11.8 %
    • 26 hairpins
    • Hard

Mallorca's most famous climb. The road drops from the Coll dels Reis to the sea at Sa Calobra in 26 hairpins and loops over itself at the Nus de sa Corbata; to get back, you climb it: 9.4 km at 7 % on average. From the house it makes a big day out, about 75 km there and back, via Caimari, the Coll de sa Batalla and the Ma-10.

Tip: Go early: coaches start coming down by mid-morning, and passing on that narrow road is tricky.

Before you ride

  • The best months are February to May and September to November. In summer, set off at sunrise.
  • Helmets are compulsory on open roads, with exceptions on long climbs or in extreme heat, and lights are required in tunnels.
  • You may ride two abreast, but single file on blind bends and narrow stretches.
  • The Mallorca 312 sportive is held at the end of April (25 April in 2026): that day roads are closed across the north, including around Campanet.
  • There are road bike rental shops in Port de Pollença, Alcúdia and Playa de Muro.
  • There are few springs in the mountains: refill at Lluc, at the Coll de sa Batalla and in the villages.
